Review: Huxley Sleep Mask; Good Night

I was really excited to give this Huxley Sleeping Mask a try when I first tried its sample out. The soft and hydrating texture quickly caught my heart, not to mention Huxley's unique and enticing scent. I quickly ordered mine from Jolse and below are my thoughts on it after using it for a good few months now.

Huxley Good Night Sleep Mask is an overnight facial mask that comes packed in a minimalist plastic tube. The simplistic design somehow makes the product even more elegant and appealing.

The product comes in a soft gel that is slightly yellowish in colour. It is very easy to spread on your skin. The lightweight texture also makes it relatively easy to absorb. Once absorbed, it will not leave your skin feeling sticky or uncomfortable, but it tends to be a bit greasy or plasticky though so you can say that the absorption is quite poor compared to other sleeping mask.

INGREDIENTS ANALYSIS

The main ingredient here is cactus stem extract (the juice) picked from the Saharan Desert. It is full of antioxidants, vitamin E and linoleic acid and other stuffs that can soothe and hydrate the skin. Catcus fruit extract is later added to soften and moisturize the skin. Among all the skin-loving ingredients, I notice ceramide (a skin nourishing ingredient), beta glucan (skin repairing and moisture locking), centella asiatica (soothing), sage (anti-aging), trehalose (soothing and moisturizing), all of which are meant for skin soothing, repairing and moisturizing properties.

PERFORMANCE

Unfortunately, despite my love for its ingredients, scent and everything, this product fails to live up to my expectation. The texture is quite disappointing. It is a soft gel but somehow the absorbency is what I would considered poor, compared to Laneige Water Sleeping Mask, Sulwhasoo Soothing Pack and so on. The absorbency of this thing is similar to the cheaper sleeping masks I have like Naruko Job's Tear Night Gelly or Coni Beauty Lavender Pack. It feels quite greasy, non-absorbing, which occurs to me like a poorly processed cactus stem juice. I am actually expecting more from this.

It is not a very decent soothing pack either, as it doesn't do a very good job calming down my skin when it is feeling sensitive or dehydrated. I think Pyunkang Yul does a better job than it. Sadly, it is also not very hydrating or moisturizing either. My skin doesn't feel quench everytime I am using it. I won't even call it moisturizing because it is too lightweight to actually lock in any moisture.

CONCLUSION

This is a powerhouse of antioxidants rich extracts and many skin soothing and moisturizing ingredients. This is supposed to hydrate, soften and pamper my skin better than Laneige Water Sleeping Mask. However, it fails to deliver all those. I really want to like it but sadly I can't. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, be it combination, oily, dehydrated or sensitive skin to check this one out because I personally don't think it will excel on any of those skin types. If you were to choose, you are better off going for Laneige Water Sleeping Mask!

Just my two cents worth. Hope that helps!

Pros:
- lightweight gel texture
- refreshing and enticing scent

Cons:
- relatively poor absorbency; feel "greasy"
- not very hydrating, moisturizing or soothing; cannot double up as cream

Overall impression: ★★☆
Repurchasing: no
