Review: Krave Beauty Kale-lalu-yAHA

Surprisingly, despite my less desirable experience with Pixi Glow Tonic, I'm actually doing quite well on this Krave Beauty Kale-lalu-yAHA! I bought Krave first, then the Glow Tonic, when Liah Yoo launched Krave Beauty. I was on a chemical exfoliant mood when I bought Krave so I also bought the Pixi Glow Tonic just for comparison purpose. I wanted to see what is so special about Pixi makes everyone raving about it. Somehow, I ended up loving Krave better than Pixi!

Krave is more practical than Pixi in the sense that it has everything you need to know on the packaging already! It says to be a "skin resurfacing exfoliator" that will remove dead skin cells to reveal a younger and healthier looking skin. It also contains plenty of dark leafy green extracts like kale, spinach and parsley to provide antioxidants boost to your skin!

This product belongs to Krave's supplement series, has a pH between 3.5 to 4.0 and 5.25% glycolic acid. Why supplement? Because you only need to use it 2-3 times a week and only at night.

I also love Krave's slogan of #PressReset. We have complicated skincare regime too much, with layers and layers of products, and funny ingredients disguised by creative titles, so it is really good to press reset and listen to our skin once more! Of course, it is always fun to try out new things, but it is nice to go back to the basics from time to time too! I am a big advocate for minimalism in life!

I love the small hole that allows easy but not excessive dispensing of product.

I usually apply this on a cotton pad, right after cleansing. A coin size amount is enough to cover your entire face. Feel the slight tingling for 5 seconds or so, wait a while, then follow up with your other skincare products. I don't wait 5-10 minutes to apply other skincare, which is not stated in the instruction either.

INGREDIENTS

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Water, Water, Butylene glycol, Brassica Oleracea Acephala Leaf (Kale) Extract, Glycolic acid, 1,2-Hexanediol, Potassium Hydroxide, Glycerin, Spinacia Oleracea (Spinach) Leaf Extract, Carum Petroselinum (Parsley) Extract, Chlorella Minutissima Extract, Malus Domestica Fruit (Green apple) Extract, Panthenol (Vitamin B5), Betaine Salicylate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Allantoin, Pseudozyma Epicola/Camellia Sinensis Seed Oil/Glucose/Yeast Extract Ferment Filtrate, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Bacillus/Folic acid/Soybean ferment extract, Coptis Japonica Root Extract, Malachite Extract, Polysorbate80, Disodium EDTA

INGREDIENTS ANALYSIS

This is a 5.25% glycolic acid solution based in aloe vera juice, plain water, and butylene glycol. Other ingredients like kale, spinach, and parsley are all vegetables I love consuming on a daily basis. They provide ample antioxidizing benefits and nutrients for the skin when applied topically. We also have panthenol, sodium hyaluronate, and allantoin as the soothing and moisturizing ingredients to counter any irritation that might be caused by glycolic acid. The formula as a whole is really gentle and sensitive skin friendly.

PERFORMANCE

It works like normal exfoliating toner or AHA serum. It helps to clear clogged pores, so you get less acne and blackheads. It is also effective against acne scars, shallower dark spots and fine lines. My skin is visibly smoother and brighter after using this for 2 months or so. Unlike Pixi, it feels quite hydrating on the skin, and not drying at all. The normal tingling goes away within seconds. This feels like normal watery toner except for the slight tingling and sour acid scent!

CONCLUSION

This is what I call food for the skin! Liah Yoo created another amazing product at affordable price. This retails for $25/200ml, or RM135 at Sweet Corea @ Qoo10. The price is similar to Pixi Glow Tonic at RM140/250ml but I like Krave Beauty better for many reasons.

Krave looks more environmental-friendly, with all the green and paper packaging. It has vegetables that we all love as one of its main ingredients. It is much more gentler and moisturizing than Pixi. The result is also highly similar to Pixi. The smell is also less pungent and "more natural". However, if I were to compare Krave and Blithe Splash Mask, Blithe wins because it is much more convenient to use.

I really like this, but I have other options like Blithe Splash Mask and Dr. Wu Mandelic Acid 18% so this is not the only one with AHA. And the result is not too impressive either. Nice to have, but not a must-have if you already have other AHA toner or serum that you really enjoy. Its cleanser, however, is currently my favourite holy-grail facial cleanser!

Will recommend this to sensitive skin with clogged pores, fine lines and skin discoloration!

Pros:
- uses antioxidants rich extract (personal preference)
- free of synthentic fragrance, colourant, and harsh chemicals
- minimalist design
- effective

Cons:
- inaccessible in Malaysia

Overall impression: ★★★★
