Review: Belif The White Decoction - Ultimate Brightening Bubble Mask

I finally bought it...! The ever-interesting, seemingly-innovative, and fun-to-apply bubble mask from my favourite brand Belif! This is not the first bubble mask in the market. We have Elizavecca, SU:M37, Mediheal, Jayjun, etc. that carry some form of bubble masks already. But for a "truthful" and "ingredients-oriented" brand like Belif to bring this formula in? That's something that's worth checking out for.

On the packaging it says this is a “wash-off type mask” that will help to remove dirt and impurities due to our external aggressors and polluted environment. The main ingredient used in here is moringa extract, an herb known for its skin purifying properties. The product is also formulated using the unique root white decoction formula, where herbal roots are slowly brewed over an extended period to extract the nutrients and effective components inside.

Basically, this is a wash-off type mask that manifests itself as a “bubble mask”. It is very similar to normal foaming cleanser, except that this one foams up itself whereas the foaming cleanser requires manual handling.

HOW TO USE

You are advised to apply this on a freshly cleansed skin. Apply the mask in a 2mm thickness all over your face. It will automatically foam up in about 10 seconds or so. Leave it on for 5 minutes before rinsing it off. The foaming process is said to be able to suck out dirt trapped within your pores, making it cleaner and fresher.

INGREDIENTS ANALYSIS

This cleanser or bubble mask uses SLS, disodium cocoamphodiacetate, stearamidopropyl dimethylamine, cocamidopropyl betaine and so on. Well… I know SLS sounds pretty horrific but it is one of the best foaming agent out there to create those rich and bouncy bubbles. I am not really a chemist so I am not sure whether the formulation as a whole is as irritating as using SLS solely as foaming cleanser. So far I have no issue or over-drying after wearing this mask so I am fine with SLS.

This Belif bubble mask uses three formula, namely the root white decoction formula, napiers original formula and napiers formula W. Basically, they are the name for a blend of different herbs that carry the same function. Root white decoction formula* refers to herbs with brightening properties that are brewed using slow cooking or heating to extract the nutrients or essential components inside. These include heather extract, feverfew extract, and teasel extract. I am sure all Belif-iers knowabout Napiers original formula, which are made of ingredients like oat kernel, chickweed, raspberry, calendula, catnip, and so on to soothe, hydrate and provide anti-oxidizing benefits. They are the basic of all Belif products. And you gotta love them in order to love Belif products! And of course we also have the basic Napirs whitening formula consisting of lavender extract, yarrow extract, chamomile extract, and rose flower extract. These provide a good dose of antioxidizing benefits that can purify and even out your skin tone.

Basically, this is a product made of a blend of surfactant and emulsifiers to deep cleanse your skin, and a whole lot of skin brightening, anti-oxidizing and soothing ingredients to repair, rejuvenate and pamper.

PERFORMANCE

This is a wash-off mask with skin purifying, detoxifying, anti-dusting and brightening properties. It is also easier to recognize it as a double cleanser, or third cleanser, or just foaming cleanser. It is a cleanser+.

I am not sure what this actually does to my skin, except for more thorough cleansing process. I don't have a microscope and I can't really tell from my naked eyes if these help to deep cleanse my pores. I apply it on my bf with huge pores and oily skin and it seems like normal cleanser in our opinion. Of course, a gentler and more effective cleanser. But whether or not this can remove fine dust and pollutants... we're not too sure.

My skin does feel clearer, fresher and cleaner after using this mask. But it is nothing the Celeb Face Sparkling Cleanser cannot do. I don't know... maybe I just can't see the hype around bubble mask, especially the long-term benefits that are brought-forth by this type of cleanser or wash-off mask.

CONCLUSION

I think it is definitely a joy to use this auto-foaming, skin massaging bubble mask that is loaded with herbal extracts with skin purifying and anti-oxidizing properties. My skin does feel cleaner after using, but not to the extend where I find it amazing or outstanding. I have never tried any bubble mask before, this is my first. I bought it because Belif is my favourite brand and that the bubble mask produced by Belif's sister brand SU:M37 is pretty popular. However... this fails to impress. It is like normal foaming cleanser, maybe it cleanses better, and that's all it can do. I think it works better and is more time-saving than clay mask though. I also like how it doesn't dry out my skin. But other than that, I don't find this practical, given the price. Honestly... I am not that into all these "anti-dust" gimmick, because dust affects our lungs way more than our skin. I prefer to invest it on some real tonic and healthy food. Besides, with that budget (RM170), I might as well go for Glow Recipe Blueberry Bounce Cleanser that can hydrate and exfoliate my skin!

In short, fun-to-use but not very practical little thing. Will not repurchase!

Pros:
- hygienic, convenient and practical packaging
- auto-foaming, time-saving deep cleansing experience

Cons:
- not practical as dust is everywhere and a weekly pack cannot really get rid of those
- didn't see any long term benefits after using it for more than 3 months
- expensive

Overall impression: ★★★☆
