Review: Loveisderma B12+ Mandelic Acid Gelly Masque

I was sent several Loveisderma products for review a few months ago, this Mandelic Acid Gelly Masque was one of them. I thought they were gonna send me the hyaluronic acid one and was quite happy that they actually sent me the Mandelic Acid one. Mandelic Acid is an AHA with blackhead clearing properties so it actually works like a BHA too. And the fact that it is oil-soluble makes it suitable for combination and oily skin too. No wonder Mandelic Acid has quickly become one of the favourite ingredients in the beauty industry! I loved my Dr. Wu 18% Mandelic Acid Serum and I was pretty excited to see how this masque will work for my skin!

Loveisderma B12+ Mandelic Acid Gelly Masque comes in a huge tub of 500g worth of product. The packaging is really simple. I think you can easily break it if you drop it, given how bulky and how fragile the packaging is.

The product is sealed with an aluminium foil. It also comes with a spatula for hygienic purpose. The product is good for 12 months after you open it, which is better than the Bonanza Gelly Masque that only has a shelf life of 3 months from opening.

The Gelly Masque comes in a bouncy pinkish gel paste. To use, you scoop an adequate amount and apply it all over your face. Make sure it forms a "thick enough" seal (0.3-0.5cm) around your face. Read my previous review on Bonanza Gelly Masque to see the mechanism behind masks like this. The mask has a sweet and refreshing scent to it that young girls will like.

Loveisderma claims that this is a Gelly Masque formulated with high quality Mandelic Acid, Azeclair and Vitamin B12 to tackle individuals with acne problems and dull/uneven skin tone. It achieves a skin brightening effect through its inhibitory effect on the enzyme tyrosinase. Great for dull and uneven skin with acne and pore concerns. Perfect for combination to oily skin.

Aqua, DL-Mandelic Acid, Cyanocobalamin, Potassium Azeloyl Diglycinate, Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, Melia Azadirachta Leaf Extract, Melia Azadirachta Flower Extract, Amino-Esters-1, Coccinia Indica Fruit Extract, Solanum Melongena (Eggplant) Fruit Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Flower Extract, Lawsonia Inermis (Henna) Flower/Fruit/Leaf Extract, Ocimum Sanctum Leaf Extract,Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract, Corallina Officinalis Extract, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol,Glyceryl Stearate, Dimethicone, Disodium EDTA, Allantoin, Propylene Glycol,Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel)Bark/Leaf/Twig Extract, Carbomer, Fragrance,Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin

There is a lot of ingredients in here, but my main focus remains the skin brightening and clearing mandelic acid, azelaic acid, ascorbic acid, and neem extracts. The rest are mostly botanical extracts with soothing and revitalizing benefits. Allantoin, aloe vera are also added to offer enhanced soothing effects.

Mandelic acid is my recent skincare favourite. It is a great alternative to AHA as it has larger molecular size and is therefore less irritating to the skin. It is also oil soluble so those with oily-dehydrated skin will benefit greatly from the AHA benefits offered by mandelic acid. We also have azelaic acid that targets acne and acne scars. Finally ascorbic acid or vitamin C to brighten up skin tone and reduce hyperpigmentation.

The product also shows up quite "clean" on CosDNA with very little orange flags and no red flags. It contains dimethicone and carbomer that might clog pores but since this is meant for wash-off, I don't think it is an issue here, if compared to having it in facial cream. Overall, a nicely formulated gel mask with the amazing combination of mandelic, azelaic and ascorbic acids.

The mask feels cooling, hydrating and moisturizing on the skin. I left it on for about 30 minutes before rinsing it off with tap water. My skin was immediately brighter, clearer and more radiant after using. The effect lasts for several hours, but not very noticeable the next day. The mask itself is not very moisturizing, in fact could be a little drying for my skin. My skin doesn't feel tight though so I don't think there is an astringent effect. Just slightly drying when patted dried. No irritation whatsoever.

I am actually pleasantly surprised by how gentle, non-drying, and effective this gelly masque is. Loveisderma feels like another Dr. Wu or Neogence for me which gives me confidence in their quality and formulation. Overall I really enjoy this gelly masque although I personally am not a fan of wash-off mask. I use it only occasionally so I don't think I will finish the entire jar up. I will pass it to my mom who adores mandelic acid and wants gentle exfoliation for her sensitive and oily-dehydrated (and dry) skin!

Overall impression: ★★★☆ (I like the product but not the category "wash-off mask")
Repurchasing: ★★ (because I can't really finish it)
