First Impression Review: Kiehl's Newly Launched Clearly Corrective Brightening and Smoothing Moisture Treatment, Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil and Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream

Kiehl's recently came out with a lot of new products. All of them were pretty exciting with interesting functions and delicious-looking ingredients! Out of sheer curiosity, I quickly went to their Mid Valley outlets and claimed these samples. By the way, Mid Valley now requires that you key in your ID in order to claim these samples. Each customer is only entitled to two samples for each product. I am not sure why they change their regulations but I guess overwhelming samples request and bad currency performance might be the reasons.

Today, I will talk briefly about each product, their respective skincare purposes and ingredients used.

Kiehl's Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream 50ml/RM 254

This is a nourishing and anti-aging cream made of Korean red ginseng and New Zealand manuka honey. It aids rejuvenation and improves resilience of the skin to make the skin appears smoother and younger. You apply this after serum as your last skincare step. No rinsing is required. You can also apply thicker amount to use it as a massaging cream.

As you can see, the consistency is pretty rich. It blends out smoothly like honey and sinks in softly, leaving a smooth and velvety finish. It will leave a tacky finish that not everyone will like, especially combination to oily skin.

[INGREDIENTS ANALYSIS] Aqua, Propanediol, Glycerin, Dicaprylyl Ether, Undecane, Glyceryl Stearate, Lauroyl Lysine, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Tridecane, Cetearyl Alcohol, Chenopodium Quinoa Seed Extract, Shea Butter Extract, Honey Extract, Mica, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Beeswax, Tocopherol, Sclerotium Gum, Xanthan Gum, Cedrus Tlantica Bark Oil, Salicylic Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Glycine Soja Fruit Extract, Adenosine, Bulnesia Sarmientoi Wood Oil, Orange Peel Oil, Citric Acid, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Limonene, Benzyl Benzoate, Farnesol, Linalool, Sunflower Seed Oil {good ingredients; preservatives}

[PERFORMANCE] To be honest, this is a really well-made cream, but is only suitable for more mature and drier skin types. The cream is really rich in emollient and is relatively fast-absorbing despite its richness. It will fill in every crack and dry lines between your cells, smoothing out all your flakiness and dryness. It contains really nutritious ingredients like shea butter, ginseng extract, quinoa, honey, beeswax, sunflower seed oil and so on. These are research-backed ingredients that are rich in antioxidants, minerals and vitamins. Shea butter, honey, beeswax and sunflower seed oil are also emollients that can intensely moisturize and soften the skin. These are the ingredients you need for drier and flaky skin. I don't think I will purchase the full size product since I don't really enjoy products richer in consistency. But for those of you who enjoy having ginseng and honey in your cream, or have flaky, more mature and dry skin, then this will be a great option for you.

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil 175ml/RM 150

This is a cleansing oil made of blend of essential oils and skin-benefiting ingredients to give yourself a massaging boost while removing your makeup! I was pretty excited when Kiehl's launched this because I always thought that a brand is incomplete without a proper cleansing oil or makeup remover. I mean, how can we rely on foam cleanser or cleansing milk to remove all our makeup? Especially when the makeup industry is constantly revolving with longer-lasting makeup that are harder to remove with normal cleanser! Hence, I am really delighted to see that Kiehl's finally carries its own cleansing oil, and in one of its best lines (or best-smelling line) the Midnight Recovery. Kiehl's claims that this cleansing oil, despite its blend of botanical oils, is really lightweight and is free of soap, sulfate and mineral oil.

[INGREDIENTS ANALYSIS] Ethyhexyl Palmitate, Corn Germ Oil, Isopropyl Myristate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Polyglyceryl-10 Dioleate, Polyglyceryl-6 Dicaprate, Evening Primrose Oil, Polyglyceryl-2 Oleate, Squalane, Coriander Seed Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Lavender Oil, Isopropyl Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Dicaprylyl Ether, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Geranium Maculatum Oil, Rosemary Leaf Oil, Linalool, Tocopherol, Citronellol, Geraniol, Limonene, Soybean Oil, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate

[PERFORMANCE] I love this cleansing oil! It is lightweight, it smells great, and it is effective at removing makeup. And did I tell you guys that I really loved the smell of Midnight Recovery Concentrate although my skin didn't quite enjoy anything oily. So this works great as a massaging tool where I can enjoy its relaxing scent and then rinse it off later. A blend of botanical oils are added in here, such as evening primrose oil, coriander oil, geranium oil, rosemary oil, lavender oil and so on. All these are potent antioxidants to bring away free radicals that might lead to aging of the skin. These oils also have antibacterial property making them effective against inflammation and acne-causing bacteria. As you can see, the cleansing oil is also quite effective at dissolving most of the makeup except for a super long-lasting tint. I think I will purchase the full size product after I am done with my Heimish All Clean Balm to give it a full try!

Kiehl's Clearly Corrective Brightening and Smoothing Moisture Treatment 50ml/RM220

This is a treatment-in-moisturizer with skin brightening and smoothing benefits, sort of like my beloved Blithe Pressed Serum. If you find the Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution drying or not hydrating enough, then this will be the perfect product for you to achieve a dewy and plump complexion. If you use the Dark Spot Solution, then use it after that and before a moisturizer. Since it is very lightweight, I don't think you can use this to replace your moisturizer unless if you have oily and acne-prone skin.

The Brightening and Smoothing Moisture Treatment has an interesting consistency. It is actually a gel cream, but when you smooth it out, you will definitely feel that it is burst into water and oil droplets to form a moisture wrap around your skin.

[INGREDIENTS ANALYSIS] Aqua, Dimethicone, Propylene Glycol, Glycerin, Alcohol Denat., Hydroxypropyl Tetrahydropyrantriol, Butylene Glycol, Dimethicone/PEG-10/15 Crosspolymer, 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, Paeonia Suffruticosa Root Extract, Potassium Hydroxide, Lavender Oil, Glycolic Acid, Sodium Citrate, Slica, Adenosine, Magnesium Sulfate, Disodium EDTA, Dipropylene Glycol, Citric Acid, Citrus Aurantium Tachibana Peel Extract, Tocopherol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Salicylic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Linalool, Geraniol, Limonene, Citral

[PERFORMANCE] Definitely you will ask, what's the difference between this and the Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution? Well, firstly the consistency of this cream is much smoother and moisturizing than the Dark Spot Solution. And secondly this contains glycolic acid (AHA) and salicylic acid (BHA) to gently exfoliate your skin hence making this formulation more effective at brightening up your skin if compared to the Dark Spot Solution. I mention "formulation" because I haven't really used the Moisture Treatment so I could not really comment on its effectiveness. But AHA is an effective skin brightening agent since it will loosen the bonds of surface skin cells allowing the skin to regenerate faster. AHA, and the vitamin C inside will work as a good partner to tone up your skin. Given the ingredients list, will I purchase the full size product? Probably not. I find the product greasy. It will leave a greasy finish on my face and even my hand which is not well absorbed. My friend with dehydrated skin calls this "oily". I guess I will still stick to my beloved Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution for now, and maybe hope that Kiehl's will reformulate it by adding the AHA inside.
