Review: Son & Park Beauty Water, My Holy Grail Cleansing Toner!

Actually I should jump the bandwagon earlier, but I was a bit skeptical when it comes to cleansing toner. I wasn't exactly sure what should I do with it, given that I already have a couple of cleansing water lying in my wardrobe and I don't makeup that much to need a cleansing water at home. I also worried that this might just be another celebrities-endorsed beauty trend that turned out to be a gimmick, like the J.One Jelly Pack. Besides, a cleansing toner at KRW 25,000 (RM 100) for 340ml is considered pricey for me. My holy grail Nature Republic cleansing water costs only KRW 15,000 (RM 50-60) for 510ml!

It was not until one of my favourite vlogger Meejmuse raved about it that I finally decided to give this a go. Besides, it just so happened that I needed a cleansing toner the time Meejmuse talked about this Beauty Water. So at night, I quickly went home and clicked the order button. Three weeks later, my Koreadepart haul with this Beauty Water inside safety arrived at my apartment.

So, let's take a look at the product itself.

Simple, plain, and elegant.

This product speaks with its performance.

Basically, Son & Park Beauty Water is a multitasking:-

a) cleansing water with the cleansing ability of a cleansing water without harsh chemicals

b) hydrating toner without being drying at all, and

c) chemical exfoliant that leaves the skin soft and smooth.

You can cleanses, tones, hydrates, refreshes, softens and exfoliates the skin with this product in your hand. No wonder it has become a celebrity favourite. It is definitely a true multitasker that makes the days easier for any busy men and women.

It’s true that this cleansing toner contains a bunch of natural plant extracts with skin-benefiting properties. In fact, I am really impressed with the quantity and quality of ingredients in this bottle.

Main ingredients are orange fruit extract, rose flower, witch hazel extract, bitter orange, wormwood extract, oregano leaf, lemon balm and so on anti-inflammatory, soothing and anti-oxidizing botanical extracts. Among them, cedarwood oil, lavender oil, geranium oil, jasmine extract, rosemary leaf extract and eucalyptus are great antibacterial, anti-microbial and anti-acne ingredients that target oily to acne-prone skin. Rose flower oil, witch hazel extract, white cedar and lavender oil are popular ingredients in astringent toner with the ability to tone the skin and shrink pores. Together, these ingredients work great for those with large pores, acne-prone skin, and uneven skin texture.

Plant-derived exfoliating agents like papaya fruit enzyme (AHA) and black willow bark extract (BHA) help to remove impurities and slough off dead skin cells without over-stripping the skin. Regular uses can fade acne scarring and dark spots associated with sun damage and aging. These compliment the toning and astringent properties of this cleansing toner to bring glow to the skin!

On the cleansing side, there is decyl glucoside, a sugar-derived cleansing agent to cleanse and tone the skin for even sensitive skin people! And also PPG-26-Buteth-26, an alcohol-based conditioning agent and surfactant that reduce flakiness and improve suppleness of the skin. Alcohol is also added to give the toner a cooling and refreshing sensation although quite likely in smaller amount.

And finally we have moisture-binding ingredients like rose flower water, olive oil, glycerin, urea, sucrose, sodium PCA and so on to ensure that the skin stays hydrated despite all the toning, exfoliating and cleansing agents we are putting on it. I have used a lot of products and almost 95% of them fail to achieve this perfect combination of toning, exfoliating yet hydrating at the same time. So bravo for Son & Park Beauty Water!

As you can see, the Beauty Water has a clear, watery and runny texture. Instant absorption without the need for patting as well! It is best applied after cleansing on a cotton pad; but also works well as a pre-makeup exfoliating liquid. Personally, I prefer to use this in the afternoon during my lunch hour as a cleansing, refreshing and hydrating step before reapplying my moisturizer and sunscreen. There is a lot of ways to use this product depending on your preferences, skin types and needs hence be creative and effective!

Cleanses quite thoroughly within 2-3 wipes

Only left some stubborn waterproof eyeliner and lip tint

This is my holy grail cleansing toner. You guys know I am quite picky about holy grails. Out of all the products I've tried, maybe 5% are my holy grails; and 10-20% are stuffs I will repurchase. But since I have becoming a smarter consumer over time, let's hope the number extends.

Anyhow, back to the product. Son & Park Beauty Water is and definitely worth the hype, but again I must agree with Meejmuse that it really depends on your needs and skin types whether or not you want to jump the bandwagon.

It is a true multitasker with cleansing, toning, prepping, hydrating, exfoliating, refreshing, and softening properties but I will still label this as a cleansing product not a skin treatment. It is no where near the performance and importance of treatment essence in my routine despite my love for this Beauty Water. It will not correct, treat, or moisturize your skin. And it contains cleansing agent that I sometimes want to rinse off with water. But it is such a convenient cleansing multitasker that makes your skincare steps easier, especially if you are always travel or makeup a lot. Much more hydrating and toning than Mamonde Rose Water Toner if you are curious!

For me, it is a definitely a great cleansing toner at a reasonable price given the quality of its ingredients and performance. Something that I will continue to repurchase until I've found a better one.
