Review: Cosrx Aloe Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA+++

This is probably one of the Korean sunscreens I get to touch, smell and use before buying. Hence, it is less likely to go wrong compared to those you only get to see its online review. I bought this during my visit to Cosrx Exhibition to Malaysia in July last year. It was a love at first sight. I knew I wanted to bring it home the moment I tested it on my palm. It smelled so divine and felt so soft on my skin. The kind of feeling you got when you woke up with an overnight mask on, or had a really good sleep the night before. This is definitely something that is more than just a sunscreen!

Cosrx claims that this is a sun cream made of 5,500ppm of aloe vera extract to supply moisture and nutrient to the skin. SPF50+ and PA+++ are the highest possible you can find in Korean sunscreen, and most sunscreen have broad spectrum anyway. The plus about this sunscreen, however, is that despite its high sun protection, it is non-greasy and is quite moisturizing and softening on the skin.

As you can see, the product has a bouncy and creamy consistency but will get absorbed into the skin effortlessly. It will leave a soft and smooth finish on the skin without greasiness or stickiness. It may be a little bit tacky if you apply 1/4 tablespoon though, which is the required amount for maximum sun protection, but the tackiness will go away if you keep patting for absorption.

I have never seen any other sunscreen with such a bouncy and resilient consistency.

Always remember to apply your sunscreen 30 minutes before going out. Do it even if you are at home as long as light can reach you, directly and indirectly. Reapply every 2-4 hours if you are outside and is under direct sun exposure. The theory is that, active ingredients in sun cream will lose its effectiveness with continuous exposure to UVA and UVB rays. Hence, it is a must that you reapply from time to time to ensure best efficacy of your sunscreen.

Water, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, Phenylbenzimidazole Sulfonic Acid, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Isoamyl P-Methoxycinnamate, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Alcohol, Dimethicone, Glyceryl Stearate, Butylene Glycol, Titanium Dioxide, C14-22 Alcohols, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Aloe Arborescens Leaf Extract, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Peg-100 Stearate, Silica, C12-20 Alkyl Glucoside, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Aluminum Hydroxide, Stearic Acid, Caprylyl Glycol, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Carbomer, Xanthan Gum, Triethanolamine Sodium Hydroxide, Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol, Disodium Edta

This sunscreen uses commonly seen sun filters like octinoxate, tinosorb S, ensulizole, amiloxate and titanium dioxide. I have talked about these ingredients before hence I'm not gonna elaborate further. Basically, they work together to form a wide spectrum sun protection against most UVA and UVB rays. They shield off some 97% of sunlight to your skin, minimizing sun-related damages like aging, dark spot and dullness.

Cosrx is good in the sense that they use a good load of quality ingredients and they are pretty selective about the ingredients they use. This sun cream has loads of viscosity-controllers to give it its bouncy, moisturizing and creamy but light-weighted texture. But there is only three skin-benefiting ingredients, namely aloe vera extract, licorice root extract and vitamin E. All these are potent antioxidants to shield the skin from environmental and uv damages. Aloe vera extract is also a great ingredient for skin soothing and moisturizing purposes. Basically, only the great ingredients are introduced, and in a good amount (5,500ppm).

I have been using this for the past 4 months and have been enjoying it so far. It is not the lightest sunscreen I've ever tried, nor is it my holy grail sunscreen. But you guys know I have a general or even biased preference for really light-weighted and refreshing sunscreen. However, I do enjoy this one, especially if my skin is a little dry or I need more moisturizing step. It is moisturizing, creamy but non-heavyduty. It also does not cause any breakout, greasiness or uneasiness. There is a reason why you fall in love for a sunscreen at your first try. This may not be my top 5 (AMPM, Kose, Kiehl's, Biore, Hada Labo) but definitely is the top 6th.
