Review: Belif First Aid Overnight Skin Regeneration Mask

Today, I'm gonna do an in-depth review on my favourite sleeping mask in 2015, which I've also raved about many times in my previous reviews and Instagram.

I am sure some of you guys who have read my mega review on Belif knows about this brand already. It is a middle-upper range cosmetic brand under the umbrella company of LG Korea. Their direct competitor is Primera under Amore Pacific Korea as well as the western brand Kiehl's. The whole concept of skincare in Belif focuses utilizing the healing power of herbs inherited from British Napiers. This is not Chinese herbs, or hanbang you see in Sulwhasoo or Hanyul. It is more like western herbal technology, quite similar to Kiehl's.

This Belif sleeping mask I'm reviewing today is not their only sleeping mask. They also carry a more creamy brightening one, and a soothing gel one as well as one designed specifically for eyes area. However, among all of them, my favourite remains this Skin Regeneration Mask.

This is a unique mask with natto-like texture that will pull into soft string on your fingers. However, it is not sticky or overwhelming at all. In fact, it will turn watery when you blend it out. It might leave a slight tackiness on your face but the tackiness feels like it is doing all the lifting and repairing instead of choking your skin cells.

You guys know I am very picky about skincare texture. Anything big or heavy will be left in the wardrobe because my skin will hate it, but not this.

It definitely looks like there is a lot of resilience and nutrition inside.

The texture is very bouncy, with memory gel kind of texture but is surprisingly light-weighted and fast-absorbing. It will melt into my skin and fill all the dry lines and gaps with its rich emollients and moisturizing factors.

Aqua, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Triethylhexanoin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Butyrospermum Parkii, 1,2- Hexanediol, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Peg-100 Stearate, Avena Sativa Kernel Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Nepeta Cataria Extract, Rubus Idaeus Leaf Extract, Baptisia Tinctoria Root Extract, Stellaria Media Extract, Euphrasia Officinalis Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra Root Extract, Achillea Millefolium Flower Extract, Aesculus Hippocastanum Leaf Extract, Rhodiola Rosea Root Extract, Vaccinium Myrtillus Fruit Extract, Equisetum Arvense Leaf Extract, Theobroma Cacao Extract, Beta-Glucan, Sorbitan Stearate, Peg-40 Stearate, Dimethicone, Sodium Polyacrylate, Carbomer, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis Oil, Geranium Maculatum Oil, Citrus Aurantifolia Peel Oil Expressed, Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Oil, Tromethamine, Trisodium Edta, Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxide (CI 77491), Citral, Citronellol, Limonene, Geraniol, Linalool.

A lot of these are emulsifiers, moisturizers, emollients, surfactants, viscosity controllers and essential oils to contribute to its lovely scent as well as unique light-weighted natto texture.

Two major plant extracts are used here:
  • shea butter with its excellent nourishing, anti-oxidizing and moisturizing properties for individuals with dry and flaky skin; and
  • licorice extract as a powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, acne-fighting and hyperpigmentation-fading weapon
Apart from those two, we also have yarrow extract, horse chestnut, bilberry, orange fruit extract, cacao, horsetail, eyebright extract, chickweed, raspberry and so on herbs with medical benefits. Yarrow extract, for instance, is an commonly used herb for wound-healing, moisturizing, baldness treating and pores constricting. Horse chestnut seed is great for combating signs of aging caused by depleted collagen. Bilberry, on the other hand is a herbal plant with excellent anti-oxidizing properties.

all herbs used to formulate this amazing natto mask

In short, all these herbs are able to promote collagen production, smooth out wrinkles, prevent signs of aging, stimulate cellular repair and renewal, soothe and act as an astringent on skin. Doesn't it sound like an excellent weapon against big pores, sagging, rough texture, dryness and dullness associated with aging?

Performance ★★★★

You'll learn from my grading that I am really in love with this mask, even more so than Laneige Water Sleeping Mask. In fact, I think it is an undiscovered gem!

This mask has really unique natto-like texture that will pull into string in your hand. But, once you smooth it out, all the stringiness will disappear into your skin almost immediately and you'll get a soft, velvety but bouncy moisture barrier on your skin.

This mask has a memory gel texture that is weightless on your skin. I am a person who is very picky about product texture. I will know immediately whether or not a product is well formulated or well absorbed. And this one certainly has my A+ with its super light-weighted and highly refined molecules. One knows it is hard to do both lifting and being light-weighted at the same time. This, and my another favourite cream Blithe Tundra Chaga Pressed Serum has certainly achieved that!

review's coming soon: Blithe Tundra Chaga Pressed Serum

In term of performance, my skin feels softer younger, and firmer especially around my cheek areas. I guess that's because I tend to massage it in an upward motion whenever I use it. It is important that you massage your skin upward especially your cheekbone areas because it is the part where all the sagging and aging starts to show up, in addition to under-eyes wrinkles and neck lines.

However, I did not notice massive improvement in my freckles, probably because I use this mask quite sparingly (because it is a weekly treatment thing). My skin has improved, with younger complexion but not lesser freckles. I think someone with dry, flaky and aging skin will get a lot more benefits from this, since I am still quite young and this will just be my preventive measure against aging.

I guess that's all I want to say about this mask. It is really really good, and will work wonder one ladies in their late 20s and above, or anyone with normal to very dry skin. Acne-prone or oily skin might want to stay away from this as it might cause breakouts for those skin types.
